University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Food Assistance Program

About

The Food Assistance & Well-Being Program ensures no student must choose between education and a meal. The shopping-style pantry provides free food and necessities to all students in a welcoming space.

According to American College Health Association's Student Health Data 2024, up to 50% of college students have experienced some form of food insecurity. Additionally, 28.1% of students report having eaten less than they felt they should because there wasn’t enough money for food.

The Food Assistance & Well-Being Program, located at the Activities and Recreational Center (ARC) and Campus Recreation Center East (CRCE), is focused on the development of students in a supportive and inclusive space with Food Science and Human Nutrition Students on hand to answer questions and provide resources.

Your gift helps fill the gap between what a student has and what they need.

  • A $75 gift supports up to 5 shopping trips,
  • $150 supports up to 10, and
  • $300 supports up to 20 shopping trips for students experiencing food insecurity.

Visit the Program's website at https://campusrec.illinois.edu/wellness/food-assistance.

Together, we can make a difference.

Refrigerated lockers added in part thanks to donor generosity.

In August 2024, a single bank of eight refrigerated lockers was installed in the Campus Recreation Center East (CRCE) facility at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to help combat food insecurity on campus.

...The refrigerated lockers were funded in part by donors who gave to the university’s Giving Tuesday 2023 campaign, which raised $6,710 through 77 gifts to support the Food Assistance & Well-Being Program on campus.
