Stethoscopes are one of the most recognizable symbols of the medical profession, and more than 200 years after their invention, are still a vital part of medicine. However, they are also one more expense on an incoming medical student already burdened with student loans.
Each gift of $250 to the Phyllis M. Wise Fund for Student Excellence will purchase one stethoscope for a Class of 2030 Carle Illinois College of Medicine medical student.
Even as we innovate new technologies to diagnose and treat disease, the humble stethoscope still plays a vital part in the clinical setting. Carle Illinois medical students begin their clinical education almost immediately upon matriculation. We aim to provide each student with a new, engraved stethoscope to take with them into their training and beyond. The white coat ceremony at the beginning of a student's medical education is a ceremonial rite of passage during which a student takes the solemn oath of a physician. Your gift today can help provide a stethoscope to each of our students.
