At the University of Illinois, we believe that every student deserves the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge on a level playing field. Disability Resources and Educational Services (DRES) has long been a national leader in providing equitable access to education, and today we have an opportunity to take that commitment even further.
DRES is relocating its Testing Accommodations Center (TAC) to the fourth floor of the Illini Union Bookstore—an expanded, purpose-built space designed to meet the growing demand for accessible testing environments. Each year, thousands of Illini rely on testing accommodations to ensure their academic experience reflects their abilities, not their barriers. As courses evolve and enrollments increase, the need for a larger, more flexible, and centrally located space has become essential.
The newly renovated center will feature modern, accessible testing stations; adjustable and ergonomic furniture; enhanced sound and light controls; and an improved layout that allows students to focus without interruption. A redesigned double-entry system will support smoother check-ins and greater privacy, while upgraded technology will better align with diverse course requirements. These enhancements will not only expand capacity but also significantly improve the quality of the testing experience for students registered with DRES.
Although the physical space is being provided by the university, DRES is responsible for outfitting and optimizing it—an investment that includes new cubicles, furnishings, technology, and modest renovations. With your support, we can ensure this center opens fully equipped and ready to meet students’ needs on day one.
Your gift directly impacts student success. By contributing to the newly renovated Testing Accommodations Center, you help create an environment where every Illini—regardless of ability— has the chance to succeed, thrive academically, and reach their full potential.
Together, we can build a campus where access is not an aspiration but a promise.
