Gifts to Invest in Leaders of the Future through I-LEAP! contribute to...
The Mannie L. Jackson Illinois Academic Enrichment and Leadership Program (I-LEAP) is a groundbreaking program in the College of Applied Health Sciences that provides support to first-generation college students, students from an underrepresented group, student-athletes, and students who are recognized by the Educational Opportunities Program or President's award Program.
Those who are selected to participate receive close guidance on transitioning to college, take part in foundational leadership training, and become connected to the campus community from Day One. The namesake of the program, Mannie Jackson, is a graduate of the College of Applied Health Sciences and a former team captain of the Illinois Men's Basketball Team. As a successful corporate executive, he recognized an opportunity to create a program that would set students up for success and help them develop professional skills they will use throughout their lives. I-LEAP is working, as seen in a 3.37 average GPA (281 participants) and 58 students who are James Scholars (Illinois honors program). Support for I-LEAP not only has an impact on students today, but also on our graduates who are the leaders of tomorrow.
