About

Gifts to the Lyric Theatre & Opera Support Fund will help provide scholarships for students involved in Lyric Theatre, and gifts to the Krannert Center Lyric Theatre Student Excellence Fund will be used for production support of the Lyric Theatre.

Your support of Lyric Theatre at Illinois will:

  • Bring in renowned guest artists and teachers from around the world
  • Help Krannert Center maintain the highest level of production value to ensure that our students, faculty, and staff have continued access to the most advanced media technology and facilities
  • Provide workshops and commissions for new, award-winning operas and musical theatre
  • Support scholarships to allow Lyric Theatre at Illinois to recruit and retain the most talented students – ensuring a diverse cast of performers and sustained competitive advantage

Your gift will make a direct and immediate impact on our LTI students.

  • $500 could support the purchase of period-appropriate costumes
  • $750 could cover the cost of materials for set design
  • $1000 could make the difference in recruiting a talented student to UIUC

Lyric Theatre at Illinois (LTI) is the producer of sung theatre at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, where it mounts three main stage and many smaller productions in a variety of styles and languages each year. We are committed to new, innovative, sung theatre; traditional European opera; and American Musical Theater. We work closely with professionals in all industries, and sponsor several compositions each year, ranging from workshops to full productions with chamber orchestra.

LTI offers a degree which focuses especially on sung theatre: the Bachelor of Musical Arts in Lyric Theatre. Students in this degree program follow a curriculum which includes substantial acting and dance instruction, and which trains the singing actor in the repertoire and techniques of all genres of sung theater. The BMA also includes students focusing on theatrical composition, directing, or writing for the stage. Uniquely positioned in a School of Music, the BMA provides a thorough musical education and commitment to healthy vocal production which theatrically based curricula cannot.

LTI is a resident producer of the Krannert Center, which presents the world’s greatest artists regularly, and which partners with us in fostering an important connection between the guest artists and students in masterclasses and residencies.
